How to use e-learning courses of the ARIS Online Academy

by Mr. Rune Becker (2009-09-23) in group University Relations

Here are some basics how to use the e-learning courses of the ARIS Online Academy.

The online help

When you start a course for the first time, have a quick look in the online help provided with  every course. There you'll quickly learn how to

  • navigate through the course using the controls,
  • making notes in learning units,
  • searching for specific learning topics,
  • setting bookmarks on learning units,
  • and how to check your learning status.

To open the online help just click on the help icon to in the top right corner:

The glossary

Another tip is to make use of the glossary in every course.

The glossary is listing up a couple of definitions you will come across in the courses and additionally  a quick overview of the ARIS Solutions and the produts of the ARIS Platform.

To open the glossary just click on the book icon:

Feedback

The ARIS Online Academy e-learning courses do not support yet an option for giving direct feedback to the authors.

However, your feedback on the courses' content is very welcome!

So for now, please post your comments and suggestions for improvement either right here or to the authors. That'll help us to improve the quality of the e-learning courses.

Now I got a mistyped certification for no use and my course is marked as falled. What can I do?

Thanks for help

So far so good ....

You may experience strange behavior when running these e-learning courses. That's due to a recent Flash update. I have to publish all courses again.

Please stay tuned for updated courses...

If we were running the class, will we need to restart from the beginning, or will it remember which pages we were not able to view during the session and just let us review the pages that we had problems with.  We had problems viewing 6 of the pages.

Also, is there anything we need to upgrade on our end for the Flash update?

by Mr. Rune Becker (2010-07-27)

I am currently figuring out how to preserve the user status (=learning progress).

In best case you will just need to run the missing or not working parts (e.g. exercises and final exam).

So just keep your Flash up-to-date.

I am currently on Adobe version 10.1, which I believe is current.  By selecting continue course I was able to remain at 90% done the course, but the pages are still blank for the following slides:

Chapter 1

1 - Name Impacts on Business

3 - Determine formally documented processes

7 - Do you know the definition of BPM

7 - Do you know the benefits of BPM

Chapter 2

2 - Assign the key principles to BPM phases

We cannot complete the course until we can view these pages.  Any suggestions?

by Mr. Rune Becker (2010-07-28)

Dear Diane,

The pages you listed are exactly the exercises of that course which currently don't work due to a unresolved change within Flash and the tool I've used to publish the courses.

The both ARIS Online Academy courses no. 1 and 2 will show the same behavior.

Sorry again for the inconvenience. I am working on it and will soon provide a solution.

Cheers
Rune

Hello Mr.Rune,

I would like to know if the courses are available in Spanish or, if you know how to translate the online videos.

We use Aris to document in our Company in Argentina and I´ve found very usefull the tutorials, but not all of our staff understand English.

Thank you very much.

Cheers

Ianina

Hola Ianina,

the 3 lessons of the ARIS Online Academy were made using the e-learning authoring tool, PowerTrainer.

I have still have all resources to produce the lesson 1 and 2, but I never have translated them into Spanish or another language.

A translation/localization would require quite some effort. The transcript (spoken text) in the PowerPoint slides, the chapter titles and the text in the graphics must be translated. After that all those text-dependent parts must replace the existing English content in each chapter, animation sequences and exercises. At last everything must be compiled together and tested by native speaker in a couple of browsers.

Do you think the benefits of a Spanish version would justify that effort?

Cheers
